You can buy tracks and tip artist and users on Moffer with a card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. You can also pay in USDC, which sends money directly to artists with no middlemen, no centralized fees, and no payout delays. USDC is a stablecoin (digial - crypto currency) which maintains a 1:1 ratio with USD govrenment back FIAT currency. If you want to utilize the crypto option, you'll need a browser wallet. If you are new to crypto currency, this guide walks you through it in about five minutes.
Install a wallet
Any EVM-compatible browser wallet works. MetaMask is the most widely known. Rabby is another popular option. Both are free browser extensions available for Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Arc.
Create a new wallet
Open the extension and choose to create a new wallet. It will generate a seed phrase: write it down on paper and store it somewhere safe. (do NOT take a picture of it). This is the only way to recover your wallet.
Never share your seed phrase with anyone. Moffer will never ask for it.
Add USDC and a little ETH
Moffer payments are in USDC (a stablecoin worth $1 USD). You can buy both USDC and ETH on Coinbase, then transfer them to your wallet address on the Base network.
Even though you pay in USDC, every transaction on Base requires a small amount of native ETH for gas (fractions of a cent per transaction). A few dollars of ETH is enough for hundreds of purchases. Send both on the Base network, not Ethereum mainnet. (You do not need ETH on Ethereum L1: Base has its own ETH balance.)
Connect to Moffer
Once your wallet is installed and funded, click the wallet icon in the Moffer header. Select your wallet, approve the connection, and your address will appear. You're ready to go.
Also update your Moffer profile with your Ethereum address so you can receive tips and revenue splits.
Common questions
Do I need a wallet just to browse?
No. You can browse, listen to previews, and read artist pages without a wallet. You only need one if you want to pay in USDC instead of by card, or to receive revenue splits as an artist that way.
Do I have to use USDC, or can I pay by card?
Card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay all work at checkout via Stripe - no wallet required. USDC is the other option: it settles on-chain directly to the artist in seconds, with no third-party payment processor and no payout schedule, so some fans and artists prefer it.
What is the Base network?
Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 chain built by Coinbase. Transactions are secured by Ethereum but cost a fraction of a cent instead of the higher fees on mainnet.
My transaction failed. I have USDC but nothing is going through.
You probably need a small amount of ETH in your wallet. Even USDC transactions require native ETH to pay for gas on Base. A couple of dollars worth is more than enough for hundreds of purchases.
Which wallet should I use?
Either works well. MetaMask is the most widely used and has extensive support resources. Rabby has a slightly cleaner interface and better transaction previews. Pick whichever you prefer; Moffer supports any EVM-compatible wallet.
Is my wallet linked to my Moffer account?
Once you update your profile with your Ethereum address, revenue from Moffer will go to that address. You can change the address at any time from your profile settings.
Ready to connect?
Once your wallet is set up, head back to Moffer and click the wallet icon in the header.
